DESCRIPTION:NATIVE HEALTH’s Tribal Home Visiting Program is hosting Positive Indian Parenting (PIP)! These interactive sessions will be held VIRTUALLY on Thursday\, September 3 and Friday\, September 4\, from 9 am to 1 pm Phoenix time. Each session is designed to reconnect families with traditional teachings so that parents can apply cultural teachings to modern-day parenting challenges. Participants can enroll voluntarily or if needing to meet a court order requirement for a Parenting Class. \nTopics Covered: Traditional Parenting\, Lessons of the Storyteller\, Lessons of the Cradleboard\, Harmony in Child Rearing\, Traditional Behavior Management\, Lessons of Mother Nature\, Praise in Traditional Parenting\, and Choices in Parenting \nParticipant must attend both days of class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. PT to receive a Certificate of Completion. Participants must register individually. All materials will be mailed to participants. Please be sure to input your address correctly. \nPositive Indian Parenting is designed to meet the needs of parents\, relatives\, caregivers\, foster parents\, and others who strive to be more positive in their approach to parenting. SUMMARY:From Seed to Smudge: A Traditional Medicine Series - Traditional Garden 09-2026
DESCRIPTION:Join NATIVE HEALTH’s Traditional Garden Program for From Seed to Smudge: Traditional Medicine Series on Thursday\, September 3\, Tuesday\, September 8\, and Thursday\, September 10\, all from 5:30-7pm at NATIVE HEALTH Central\, 4041 N Central Avenue – Phoenix! \nIn this series\, we will learn about sweetgrass\, sage and cota (Navajo Tea) from the process of seed\, to braiding/bundling\, to smudging. In our first class\, Yoseph El of Planted Alchemist will teach us the ways to plant these medicines and how to care for them as they grow. Each attendee will receive these seeds to plant at home. \nIn our second class\, Elicia Goodsoldier will teach us about the cultural relevance\, uses and bundling process of sage. Each attendee will receive a sage smudge stick to burn at home. \nIn our final class\, Yoseph El will teach us about the cultural relevance\, uses and offer a demonstration on the braiding of sweetgrass. Each attendee will receive a sweetgrass braid to bring home with them. \nThe first 30 people to register and attend all of these sessions will receive a copy of the books “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer and “Held By the Land” by Leigh Joseph. \nOpen to Indigenous families and individuals.
